About me

My name is Jay Brown, and I am running to continue serving on our education council. I have served multiple terms on CEC21, and have been elected by my fellow council members multiple times to serve as CEC21 president, a role I currently hold.

As a parent of two kids on the spectrum with IEPs, I will continue to advocate for kids with different[NOT *dis*]-abilities and support parents/guardians in navigating the complex systems that so often make it hard to get the necessary supports and accommodations their children are entitled to.

As a lifelong Southern Brooklyn resident who grew up attending D20 and D21 schools, and who has always valued and celebrated our community’s diversity, I will continue to advocate for our students and families whose primary language is not English, and work to ensure nobody is ever made to fell less-than becasue of who they pray to, what they look like, where they come from, how they were born, or because of any other characteristic that defines who they are.

As a CEC member, and especially as president, I have taken the responsibility of my position very seriously. From visiting our schools for the fun events, as well as during difficult times, to writing resolutions that reflect our council’s collective voice on important issues and representing our concerns to the DOE and chancellor at citywide meetings, I not only plan to continue, but to expand on that work in my next term on our education council.
